Ugh.. debt stinks

May 7th, 2007 at 02:34 pm

You know what the worse part of being in debt is? It's not the fact that due to past impulsive spending I am paying mega bucks in interest. It's not the fact that I have a limited cash flow because every extra dollar is going to pay off a credit card. It's not the fact that I have to say no to vacations, and new clothes and a new car all because I need to pay off the credit cards. It's the lose of freedom all of that creates. Stress related to money worries is the worse type of stress ever! It's terrible.
Like today, I was crusing along in my automobile, when the coolant light came on. I checked my little handy owners manual and what do you know? It means that the coolant temperature is too hot and if I don't take care of it, my car can possibly overheat. Isn't that just ducky? Now I get to think about how I am going to get it to the shop. How much is it going to cost? Is the car really worth putting any more money into it or should I just bite the bullet and a buy a new one?
Point of the matter, if I had stopped the insane impulsive spending before it got out of control, making a reasonable car payment would not be a problem. But, now, with the whole 10K in credit card debt to pay down, the thought of adding another fixed expense to my budget column is enough to send me to the bar for a lunch time margarita.
Ok. One day at a time, right? It took mea long time to rack up 10K in credit card debt.... it's not going to magically go away in a couple of months.

Welcome! And you're right.....spending eats away at your independence. Now that you are aware of it, you'll be able to turn it around and free yourself! That's what so many of us are doing.

Welcome, welcome, welcome. Most of us are or were where you are. You can turn it around.

Now first, don't buy that Margarita at a bar. Get the fixings for one and make them at home, much cheaper!

Have you checked your coolant level? Often you just need to add more coolant, which is quite easy and inexpensive. I always carry a jug of it in the gym bag in my car....you're on the right road now with getting real about your finances, keep it up and WELCOME Smile

nice to have you join us! something you might want to do is check your local library or auto parts store for the maintenance book for your make and model car. it should have information about maintenance you can perform yourself like coolant, oil chances, spark plugs, etc. it's intimidating at first, but after a while it becomes kind of satisfying in a way!
